Rider Comments:

  • "A trip through California's oil country. Stop by the 'Million Penny' bar in McKittrick, and the West Kern Oil Museum in Taft." - Hy Libby (12/7/09)
  • "Leave Coalinga (Coaling Station A, originally) on Highway 33 SB, and stay the course. It's a great North-South route without the semis and crazies in cages of I-5. The 'scenery' through the oil fields is surrealistic. Be sure to stop in McKittrick and see the 'Million Penny Bar' and stop by the West Kern Oil Museum in Taft. (A side trip west on Highway 46 out of Blackwell Corners towards Cholame will take you to the James Deam memorial.) Further south, Maricopa is a town 'that used to was' at the base of the grade that will take you over the Los Padres to the coast or to Ojai. Rider's choice!" - Hy Libby (11/23/09)
  • "When Edmunds says it's a great drive, I'll believe 'em, sight unseen. In their Mazda MX-5 vs. Solstace comparison test, they write, "From there it was off to some of central California's best driving roads, including Routes 33 and 166, which snake through 100 miles of lush canyons before ending up in the desolate flatlands to the east. There, surrounded by nothing, is the Buttonwillow road course, where we set up a tight 11-turn configuration to further evaluate the athleticism and smile factor of the two two-seaters." - Anonymous (3/23/09)
