Rider Comments:
- "The Old Idaho 7, AKA CR P1 or the old Cavendish Highway, is one of those easily overlooked roads but bummed when you realized you missed it type roads.
Most riders will by pass this road becuase they are either having such a great time on Highway 12 (Lolo Pass) or just don't know about it.
I, myself think it is as good or possibly even better than the Spiral Highway.
Any how this road ran in either direction is great fun with incredibly beautiful vista's and views. I prefer to ride this from Orifino headed west to Kendrick. If you are already riding Highway 12 you would cross the bridge over the Clearwater River into Orifino and catch the first left on the Old Idaho 7. The first few miles are slow going through some residentials and than thins out on to the old highway, This is where the fun starts. You will start climbing at a fairly quick rate and the twisties are plentiful. Expect to see 15 mph and 20 mph corners in tight groups. As you climb the views are great and you may want to stop for some photo ops. Heres the bad part, there is hardly any turnouts, so choose wisely for a safe spot. After an awesome climb out of the valley you will ride areas of wheat fields and ponderosa pine that are loaded with smooth sweeping corners. While in this part of the ride through Cavendish and Southwick, both nice little bergs but no services. As you get close to the end of this short but fun ride you will drop down into the Kendrick through a twisty little canyon that is smooth as it is scenic. When you get to Kendrick stop in at the HillBilly Bar and Grill for some grub and a brew.
All in all this is a side ride not to be missed while riding Lolo Pass. It is actually my favorite Idaho ride." - Travis Wickenhagen (8/30/10) - "Very little traffic through a mix of wheat fields and pine trees, with plenty of twisties keep you entertained on this road. Nice change of pace from the sweepers on Hwy 12." - Rider from Ferndale, WA (9/28/09)
