This is a wonderful, well paved road with plenty of wide areas on the hills for passing.
Smooth, with nice sweepers and very scenic, particularly on the east end toward US 1.

Sweeping turns with great views!

This, in my opinion, is the best motorcycle road in Maine.
The scenery is beautiful, from the coast on the Eastern end, through the blueberry barrons and the hills.
All mixed in with some real high speed sweepers.
Passing lanes are plenty and the road is in very good condition.
Traffic, what little there is, moves very quick.
Ninety miles and if you take your feet off the pegs then it's because you want to.
Gas and food all along the way.

I have been traveling Route 9 for 40 years.
My family has a cottage in Charlotte, Maine, so I take it at least once a year, if not more.
This road has been improved 100% from 10 years ago.
Most of the construction has been completed and the surface is excellent.
If you are looking for a true 'Down East' experience, take this route.
Just make sure you do it during the week.
It is the only main route that runs to the Baring/Calais area, so weekend traffic can be heavy during the summer and fall.
Also watch out for moose.
They can come out from no where and can be 4 times larger than an average deer, the looser in this encounter is always the motorcyclist, so be careful.
