Rider Comments:

  • "This is 'The True Ozarks', with peace, tranquility, and nature's beauty. Highway 142 is a good quality paved road that has great curves and beauty along the way. Be sure to stop at the hill tops and savor the panoramic views. At the crossing of Eleven Point River you should make a stop to admire the river for a spell. If you stop on the west side of the river, a former privately owned park (The Narrows) allows a short hike into the wilderness area where you'll see nature at its best, along with a great bluff overlook, and spring below. The Narrows area is now part of the National Scenic Riverways, and open to the public. On the east side you'll find a small park, boat ramp and launch area, with toilets. Depending on the season and the economy, you may find some of the local cafeterias, and you might find some gas. It is best to start with a full tank and a full stomach, for as I write this, I don't believe there are any active gas or food facilities between Thayer and Doniphan." - Rider from local area (2/7/10)
  • "If you're in the area, this road is well worth the ride. Enjoyable stretch of road with a few tight curves, plenty of scenery and a few places to stop along the way.
I always find myself anxious to pass cars to enjoy the curves that this road offers. Refrain from taking chances because many curves are blind and there's too much traffic on this road to take chances. The possibility of unseen traffic is always likely.
The "Parker through truss" bridge across Eleven-Point River at Riverton is a nice place to stop and stretch your legs. There's good parking on either side of the river and great photo opportunities.
There are a few good places to get Premium fuel at Doniphan and Alton, but few places in between. Can't really think of any "hidden treasure" eating spots along the route." - A Rider (3/19/09)
  • "An online source showed 39.6 miles with a total estimated travel time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. We did it in 65 minutes. It was a good work out!" - Rider from Montgomery City, Missouri
