Rider Comments:
- "This is one really suWEET road that NOBODY knows about.
We rode it during the Wyoming State HOG Rally in July 2010 and it was a blast!
From Sheridan going north it rolls over and around the big hills following the Tongue River.
Then it crosses the river, hooks a little to the NW, and heads into scattered pine trees and picks up the Rosebud Creek.
It runs right past the Rosebud Battlefield where General Crook's Command encountered Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull, and the rest of the Indian forces that wiped out Custer and the 7th Calvary two weeks later in 1876.
The Indians beat Crook and his men so handily that they retreated back to the south where Sheridan sits today and were fishing the Big Goose Creek when Custer got wiped out.
There are interpretive signs and some memorials at the Battlefield, but be cautious.
The road from the highway into the interpretive area is gravel and the cattleguard is a little hairy.
From the Battlefield turnoff this road heads into a narrow canyon with some really sweet sweepers. Be carefull not to twist the throttle too much because there are a few farms and ranches along this route and some blind curves. But you can have a really nice ride and open it up as the road comes out of the narrow area into a wider valley. A little further up you start getting really good sight distances and can cruise about as fast as you want to go. Busby, Montana is where Custer and the 7th camped the night before they got to the Little Bighorn. Lots of history out here and the land hasn't changed too much from back in those days. This was one really great way to get to the Little Bighorn Battlefield (which is a MUST SEE if you're ever out this way) from Sheridan and we'd ride it again any time." - Rider from Cheyenne, WY (7/19/10) - Submit your on this road.
