- "The 8 to 10 switchbacks, of the 2.4-mile road (toll booth to summit parking lot) on Grandfather Mountain Drive, requires skill and concentration to maneuver.
Motorcyclists travelling too slow can lose momentum and tip over -- those travelling too fast suffer other consequences.
(The switchbacks of North Carolina's/Tennessee's infamous "Tail Of The Dragon" and Tennessee's "The Snake" are not as severe as those on Grandfather Mountain.)
At times high winds add to the challenge.
