Short but oh, how sweet it is!
Climbs up Thiells Mountain with High Tor State Park to the east and South Mountain County Park to the West.
Two wide lanes with mostly good visibility.
Four switchbacks in just over a mile!
Heading north you're riding three of them UP the mountain which is more fun.
Lightly traveled, but at top of the summit there are hiking trails, so watch for cars pulling out of parking spaces.
Tar snakes have been worn down by motorists in the past year so traction is currently good as of June, 2012.
Continue on north to CR 98 and Seven Lakes Drive.

Short and sweet!
If you're making the routine trip from NYC to Harriman State Park via 9W, take a detour on South Mountain Road.
(Co. Rt. 90) heading west from the Hudson River.
Make a right onto County Road 33.
The road goes up Thiells (?) Mountain through Hi Top State Park.
Wide road, with turns that fall somewhere between sweeping and tight.
There's a lookout on the top of the mountain but why bother?
Watch for tar snakes as the repair crews sometimes get very sloppy with the stuff.
BTW, Hi Tor State Park is described as a 618-acre park with a swimming pool and bathhouse, hiking trails, and picnic groves.
So they say -- never stopped there.
