This section of SR 147 is designated by ODOT as the Drovers Trail Scenic Byway.
In the early 1800's an Indian trail was used as a livestock drove road.
It did not need to be straight due to the slow vehicles and livestock that traveled in those days.
The sharp turns, hills and ridgetop views make for an exciting trip; just don’t expect to go fast very often!
Some worn down road ways once used by drovers can still be seen along this well maintained highway.
A colorful brochure is available at many ODOT rest stops or at the Belmont County Tourism Council office in St. Clairsville.

This road is a constant series of 25 and 35 mph twisty sections that follow a scenic ridgeline.
The East end, within several miles of Bellaire, has close access to houses while it progresses into rural farmland as you go west.
