- Ridden on 9/2/11 – Ducati 1098. more...536 (uphill from 7), this road has just completely deteriorated from our July 4 ride earlier this year. It was a really good time last trip and not as much fun this time around. They put in 4 foot wide tar strips or patches that go across the road from start to finish and they are slick. There is also a lot more debris than last time around. It might be slightly better going downhill but I would recommend 255, 556, 800 or 26 as they are much, much better. 255 is a blast! - Mary (9/6/11)
- The twisties are good, the gravel is bad. more...Road seemed pretty clean last Sunday (10/10/10) & I'm used to taking the cage tracks on the right handers where the gravel is dragged onto the road, but a blind left hander got me. Apparently, someone spun their tires quite a bit when going up the gravel drive just past the apex & threw gravel all over the road just before I arrived. No clear path thru so I lowsided from near full lean into the ditch & had to drag the bike out & ride 200 miles home with several broken ribs. Careful out there! - Anonymous (10/14/10)
- I rode this route last week (7/27/2010), and was disappointed to find it closed and under construction. more...Sign says it will reopen sometime in late August. I decided to run it from both ends anyways and it was still a good time. No traffic at all. More gravel on the corners than in past year's runs. Still a great ride! - 'Bigfoot' (8/3/10)
- I absolutely loved this road! I rode it in early Septmber, 2009. more...The pavement was flawless and I got air a couple of times. Dramatic elevation changes. This road will bite you if you're not concentrating. - Tom Davies, South Ryegate, VT (9/29/09)
- Very technical road as others have said, a wicked switchback about 3.5 miles in from the Woodsfield end. more...Pavement is in good shape-very little to no gravel. The exception is about 10 spots where there is a ripple across the road, causing the chassis to become unsettled. A few of these are located just before entry into a corner where you are starting to lean the bike and it's a little frustrating as you can't attack the corner as you would like to. I will certainly run it again, but in my opinion, Route 255 is better in every way. - Jeff J. (8/10/09)
- An incredibly fun road best experienced on a motard or dual sport. more...The road surface is in great shape, and the "dangerous" curves are well marked for the most part. It rides well in both directions. I've never gotten a bad look from the locals, and have actually been allowed to pass by four wheeled motorists on several occasions. There is an unmarked road across from the community center that will take you out to a scenic lookout named Kiedash Point. The view of the river valley is spectacular, and should not be missed. This is a favorite destination ride of mine, and I always run it out and back, often times more than once. - Doug (5/11/09)
- I took my first run of '09 on 536. more...The pavement is in pretty good shape overall. There is alot of sand on the road surface at this time. Hopefully the spring rains will clear alot of that off before long. We rode it from the south end. You gotta love the run up the hill away from the river. Some really nice places to let the lowside scrape. Be carefull but enjoy. Oh, this pass we saw the most traffic I've ever encountered on this road, 3 cars. - 'NomadRider' (3/10/09)
- A friend commented this is a lot like Deal's Gap. more...It is one of the true roads where a dual sport or supermoto will easily outdistance any other bike and do it with a lot of fun. It's remeniscent of riding a good tight trail on a motocrosser. Truly enjoyable on a dual sport or supermoto, not as much on anything else. - Anonymous (8/13/08)
- All in all a good ride, but any comparisons to Deals Gap's 'Tail of the Dragon' are extremely ambitious. more...This route is very populated, and less challenging than many of the 2 lane highways in neighboring WV. After reading all the hype surrounding it, I found route 536 to be a bit of a disappointment. - Steve Saunders (8/2/08)
- A great road. more...One of the best in the area, and that says alot, because there are some real good roads nearby. - Anonymous (7/13/08)
- Without a doubt it is Ohio's 'Tail of the Dragon'. more...As the other rider stated, make sure you are alert!! - Anonymous (9/11/07)
- Possibly the most difficult road I have ever ridden in the state of Ohio over the past 14 years. more...All curves are well marked (lots of 15mph markers). At Round Bottom, the sign at the entrance to 536 says "NO SEMI's" and has a picture of a semi broken in half trying to crest a hill, if that gives you any indication. NO room whatsover for error. No shoulder, no guardrails, no traffic. Lots of elevation changes with insane tight corners on a narrow road. The pavement is excellent. No holes, no patches, no tar snakes. The last downhill hairpin into Hannibal is a real tense one after the workout the previous 13 miles gives you. Ran this road on an '07 FZ6 and was constantly side to side. No real straights, no real flat spots. It's all up, down, and around the whole time. Ride it when you are fresh instead of at the end of the day. A tired rider on this road could spell disaster. - Jeff Brannen (8/20/07)
- This is the tightest, twistiest road that I know in Ohio. more...New pavement March of '06, but can still have gravel in corners. When this road is clean you would be hard pressed to find a better twisty road in Ohio! - Dennis Cochran (5/20/07)
