Rider Comments:

  • I rode 800 S from Route 799 to Route 7. The road conditions were very good, light traffic, nice sweepers and some technical twistys. Even the occasional Amish Buggy did not slow our pace. I did not run across any problematic gravel at all. The last eight miles were just awesome: brand new blacktop, a high concentration of tight turns, and significant elevation change. - Chris L. Klein (8/1/11)
  • Rode 800 from Barnesville to our 'jumping off point' of Woodsfield. Great road to get you and your bike warmed up and ready for the Route 26/536/255 complex. Great pavement, good sweeping turns. We actually encountered Sunday traffic on this road, compared to the other 3 where we didn’t see a car all day! - Jeff J. (8/10/09)
  • I ride Ohio SR800 at least twice a year, from outside New Philadelphia to its southern end point at OH SR 7 on the Ohio River. Good two lane with good pavement, and lots of twisties, as well as long sweepers, especially as you ride further south. Since I have family in Charleston, West Virginia, I ride 800 to OH 7, take a short left, then pick up the last operational ferryboat across the Ohio River to West Virginia. Once into West Virginia, I continue south on WV SR 16. There’s more exciting roads in SE Ohio, but this one is a good combination of curves, semi-straight stretches, and several small towns where you can stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Like ice cold root beer and dogs? Great hot dog stand at Route 800 and Route 799. - Bob Gilligan (10/22/08)
  • Pretty good road south of Dover. North of Dover is not worth the time! Be careful as you go further south. I came across a cow in the middle of the road on a blind turn and swevered to miss it, luckily everything worked out. Also, several chickens and deer crossing the road as well. I swear this is not the beginning of a joke! - Kevin, Ohio rider (6/30/08)
  • This stretch of Route 800 has a ton of great hills and turns. The whole stretch is good but the road really gets fun when the traffic thins out south of Woodsfield heading towards Antioch and then on to Route 7 (which runs along the Ohio River). The road is very scenic as are many of the roads in the area. FYI - the road/corners really tighten up the last several miles (or the first several if you are heading north). - Matt Comrie
