Rider Comments:

  • "Reporter Steve McConnell's opening sentence in a January 13th, 2010, Times-Tribune article states "Home to exceptional trout waters and a corridor where the bald eagle roams in Wayne and Pike counties, the Lackawaxen River has been designated River of the Year for 2010 by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources." In part, the statement captures the essence of Towpath Road for the section adjacent to the Lackawaxen River between Kimbles and Rowland. Along the road, stone wall remnants of the old Delaware & Hudson Canal inspire images in one's imagination of times past and fly-fisherman cast their lures to unsuspecting trout.
In the hamlet of Lackawaxen, 5-miles east of the Route 590 merge with Towpath Road, is John A. Roebling s bridge over the Delaware River, the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the United States. Historically, the bridge floated coal barges via a trough of water across the Delaware River. For those that appreciate Zane Grey s novels of the old west, look for the Zane Grey Museum less than a mile from the bridge. The Two River Junction store also nearby is a nice lunch stop with tables facing the Lackawaxen River and a spotting scope focused on a nest of resident bald eagles. Consider MotorcycleRoads.US favorite route, Kimbles Road, to add 4-miles to this ride." - Charles Peterson (2/18/10)
