- Recently rode this highway, it is a nice, fun road that goes from Northeast Tennessee all the way down thru Seiverville. more...It takes you past the Chilhowee National Parkway (very nice ride also) as well as is a great way to get from NE TN to 'The Dragon', 'Tail of the Dragon' or US Route 129. Along the way you will pass thru small towns with many resturants to choose from and lots of places to take a break. Gas stations are abundant and cell coverage is also available. Believe me I have the worst carrier and never lost signal. I was grateful when my little bike broke down. A nice road with lots of other bikes on it. - Janice aka 'bigbike4' (9/2/12)
- This road is scenic and deceptively fun. more...I ran it from Pigeon Forge to the Foothills Parkway, and from Maryville back to Pigeon Forge. There are some wide open fields where you can see far off into the distance, small town charm all along the way, and some good curves mixed in. It is a good way to get from Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge to the 'Dragon'. The road surface was in good condition, with plenty of food and gas stops. Not many places to pass in the 2 lane section, so traffic can be a bummer if you get behind the wrong car. If not, you can rip and roar a little bit. There are some nice sweepers along the way and and some tighter turns to keep it interesting. I wouldn't go out of my way to ride this road, but if you find yourself using it to get somewhere it's a pretty good ride. - Dustin from New Bern, NC (6/21/11)
- This road is indeed a great ride. more...My husband and I live in the area and enjoy it alot. However, since this winter has been so bad here - beware of the potholes! Some of them are very dangerous for bikers. The state will have it's hands full fixing all the roads in the area come spring, so be patient. There is a spot a couple of miles into Tennessee that tends to have rocks that fall into the road also. The ride around Watauga Lake is very beautiful. They have several picnic areas along the lake that you can pull off and have a picnic lunch and enjoy the lake view. They do have bathrooms also at a couple of them. - A high country rider (2/23/10)

- I cannot believe this section of road isn't listed! more...Take a look at it on a map and your mouth will water. One of my very favorite highways in the country; sweeper after sweeper after sweeper. Oh, it's scenic too. It runs along Lake Watauga. - Dave Mytinger (12/2/08)
- By the end of 2008, Lenoir to Blowing Rock will be a 4-lane climb up to the Blue Ridge Parkway with some great views. more...In the meantime, though, there are major construction delays, even on weekends. NC 181 is a much better alternate route. -
