Rider Comments:
- "The interesting feature of Carpenter’s Bluff Bridge going over into Oklahoma is that it appears to be just days before collapsing into the Red River below.
Much of the guardrail pipe is missing and the only thing between you and the river is air.
The Oklahoma side of the road is also called Carpenter’s Bluff Road.
It is possible to walk on the plank wagon road attached beside the motor vehicle part of the bridge, but you are taking a risk of caving in and going straight down to the water below.
Also you have to make some pretty big jumps over some wide open gaps where some of the planks are rotted out and missing.
I recommend this easy going ride on FM 120 exiting east off US Highway 75 in Dennison.
You have to keep one eye to the left looking for the bridge, because if you don’t you’ll ride right past the bridge and never see it, since it is a 90 degree turn off of FM 120 about 40 feet away.
FM 120 keeps running parallel to the river, whereas the bridge crosses over the river to the left.
There is no sign to direct you.
If you happen to be on a 4 wheeler or a 3 wheeler, immediately to the left of the Oklahoma exit off the bridge is a dirt bike or 3 or 4 wheeler trail that will carry you right down to the Oklahoma river bank where a lot of people run up and down beside the river. The ground is stable and you won’t get stuck. I have not done it, but I see people down there below the bridge having a lot of fun, whooping and hollering and laughing, so it can’t be too bad." - Harley DWG in Denton County, TX (9/15/11) - "Several 30-mph sweepers, and a couple of 20-mph twists along the way for a very nice ride. The Carpenter's Bluff Bridge that crosses the Red River is over 100 years old, and is only one lane, with a Historical Marker telling the story, wich makes an interesting endpoint." - Rider from Arlington, TX (2/4/09)
