Rider Comments:

  • "I recently rode on US Highway 83 from Perryton to Childress on a return trip from Sturgis. The scenery from Perryton to Shamrock was as scenic as it gets in the panhandle of Texas towards sundown. The road switches from two lane to four lane, and back, and back again. It was a pleasant surprise to see the rolling plains, windmills, and vegetation after having travelled through western Nebraska and Kansas. This road is already listed as scenic from other postings (I have in the past travelled almost the length of it), but this is the most scenic part I have experienced." - John McCleskey, Wichita Falls, TX (8/12/08)
  • "US Highway 83 is one of the longest north-south US Highways in the United States, at 1885 miles. It is known as 'The Road to Nowhere'. Approximately 915 miles is in Texas from the Oklahoma state line, 7 miles north of Perryton, to the US/Mexico border in Brownsville. Beautiful ride. The Texas portion is designated the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway and each year in March motorcyclist gather in Perryton to make the four day trip in memory of Vietnam Vets all the way to Brownsville." - James Wright, Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway Motorcycle Run (7/5/06)
