Rider Comments:
- The entire road is of interest, as it curves and swoops along the banks of the Colorado River. Be sure to watch the road instead of the huge cliffs. You will cross over the river at the site of the old Dewey Bridge. And continue to Cisco, an old ghost town. There are no restaurants or fuel stops along this route, but plenty of scenic stops. If you have time, stop at Negro Bill Canyon and take the hike up the canyon to Morning Glory Bridge. - Rider from Moab, UT (9/18/11)
- If the weather is good you won't find a finer road to enjoy a couple of hours. But, take caution. If there are thunderstorms in the area, avoid the road. The mud and rock slides will render the road impassable on 2 wheels. You don't want to have to turn back or, worse yet, get caught between 2 washouts. - TH, Ca HD Rider (8/23/10)
- I've found the best roads are found when venturing off the planned route and going someplace that looks interesting. I was headed west on I-70 when Moab called to me and I ventured off to Arches National Park. Then I decided to head east on 128. From the map it just looks like an everyday winding, sometimes twisty road with the typical views of this part of Utah. What I found was something much more impressive. If you look carefully at the map, you will see it follows the path of the Colorado River. What it doesn't tell you is the path of the Colorado river is through a small version of the Grand Canyon. The massive canyon walls towered above and seemed to move like the top of a skyscraper if I dared to look up. They were so close together, it seemed as if they might somehow clap together trapping me between them. Along the way are a good number of semi-developed campsites which I think are free. Semi-developed meaning tables and outhouses. I don't know about water. Of all the roads I've submitted, this ranks up with the best. Next year, I plan to spend a week exploring this area of Utah. The picture below doesn't begin to capture the depth of the canyon or the feelings one gets in the canyon, but it's the best I could do. Most of 128 is in this canyon. Given a choice, I'd suggest going east to west as most of the places to stop are on the north side. - Gershon (9/3/08)
- Nice Spring or Fall ride. Early morning or late evening in the Summer. Watch out for bicyclists. Gorgeous scenery. - Bruce Hammer (6/1/07)
