  This is the second time we have ridden the entire length of the parkway. It rained everyday both trips at least half the day. Still, one of the best roads I have ever ridden. Scenery is second to none. Was some paving going on but did not affect traffic much. Speed limit 45 mph. Highly recommended. - Jeff Furguson (7/1/11)

  From Big Lynn Lodge at Little Switzerland, NC, rode 50 miles to Blowing Rock. Next day, rode 70 miles to Mt. Pisgah. Lots of sweepers and interesting views. Watch for tunnels. If sunglasses on, may be dark going into some. - Scott Ball (6/12/11)

  Stayed in Maggie Valley, which is very nice. There’s no way to describe this road. You just have to ride it to appreciate the beauty and the great ride. The only drawback is that you can have a long run to get someplace to get gas or eat. Other than that it is really something else. This is a must ride for any serious biker. The scenery is breathtaking and the road has more curves than a drunken snakes crawl path. Don’t miss this one. - Jim Paleks (2/14/11)

  First day we rode to Cherokee and got on the Parkway there. Great ride ended too soon at Highway 276 before making it to Mt. Pisgah. T-storms and parkway closure shortened the ride. After making it home saw on the Parkway website that the road is closed between mileposts 399 and 405 because of the possibility of landslides. Second day rode to Marion and got on the parkway at Buck Creek Gap and headed south towards Asheville. Lots of road work south of Craggy Gardens. One section covered in small gravel which makes for very uneasy riding for a mile or two. Got chased back towards the cabin when T-storms moved into the area again. Got a little wet. All in all it was a great ride, both days. Fantastic views and easy to ride. Not too much traffic as we were riding during the week.   Basically this is a continuation of Skyline Drive, going south, without the park fees and 35mph speed limit. You need to keep to posted limits first 10 miles, chock full of rangers and statees, after that anything goes. This road is fun on a bike, but very unforgiving. Too hot into a turn here will buy you a front row ticket to see God. Buena Vista is a nice place to visit for gas and food about half way to Roanoke. The road down to Buena Vista, from the parkway is really twisty and fun, Enjoy!! - Mike Sykes (8/16/09)

  We had a great time! We found a huge jewel just off the parkway at mile post 248; a place called Freebornes Eatery and Lodge. If you ride through there it is a must see. It is a good place to stay. They have a resturaunt, bar and motel on site. The food and rooms are good and the people are great! They have live bands every weekend. They cater to all motorcyle riders.   Go East on 70 about 1 mile, then right to I40, x55. Continue on I40 East to x72 (US70 at Old Fort, which has some good restaurants), then proceed about 8 miles East on US70 to the junction with NC80, just before Marion).   The section around Roanoke is in poor shape and is rough (but, I saw DOT type markings, so perhaps a resurface is in the future). The only pavement that is deteriating is from Maggie to the end in Cherokee. The pavement is beginning to crack and seperate and the pavement in the last two tunnels is awful. Nothing serious, but quite disappointing. Despite that, Boone to Cherokee (after construction repairs are completed) is recommended. - Robert (8/14/08)

  A rockslide and roadway failure has closed the Blue Ridge Parkway to all activities including foot traffic and bicycling between the entrance to Craggy Gardens Picnic Area and the entrance to Mount Mitchell State Park. You can work your way around this piece by following the detours, but your missing some really nice areas. I suggest you take I-40 to Rt. 221 north. This turns into 226, then turns into 261, then turns into 143 (to Roan Mountain). You can then go west on 19 for a short distance and pick up 321/67 north. Go west on 421 and pick up Rt. 133 north. There's a nice little "biker" stop on the corner of 133 and 58. Go east on 58 (Jeb Stewart Highway) and pick up Rt. 16 at the "Mouth of Wilson". You can pick up the Blue Ridge off of 16 and head north. This should put you past the construction zone. The Blue Ridge closure is through 2009.   I only got a small taste of it, this past weekend. I took Route 60 west towards Buena Vista and hopped on the BRP. From there, I headed north all the way to the beginning at Afton Mountain and I-64. Just with that short cruise on the BRP, I couldn't believe the views. Beautiful, slow, winding, twists and turns at 45mph. It is a must see on a motorcycle. Words can't describe it. - Rider from Richmond, VA (4/20/08)

  It's not a difficult ride at all, and a great ride to take your wife on, as it has lots of overlooks to stretch the legs and the views are amazing. If you leave Cherokee in the morning, you can have lunch in Blowing Rock, which is a very nice town with good restaurants. Then get back on the road and stay the night at 'Peaks of Otter', which is along the parkway just north of Roanoke. I'd suggest making reservations ahead of time, and BE CERTAIN to get there BEFORE SUNSET!!! There of hundreds of deer that hang out there and all over the road. The Hotel is great and most rooms face a large lake. You can see the deer walking between your room and the lake. The Blue Ridge is 469 miles of Heaven on 2 wheels. - EM, South Florida (3/9/08)

  Covered every mile. Absolutely beautiful every mile, curve, mountaintop, valley and tunnel. Also did Deal's Gap (the Dragon's Tail) which was nice, but sort of a let down after the BRP. If you get an opportunity to make this drive do it! Be sure, however, to plan your jump off points for lodging, gas, etc., because there really are not stop lights or 7-11's.   It has it all. Amazing views, technical turns, fast sweepers, good road quality and not one stop sign or red light for 400+ miles. I am doing this route top to bottom for the second time and second year in a row. I absolutely am in love with this part of the US. Make sure you do most of your travel during the week to greatly reduce your chances of winning a legal speed record. - Dave C. (8/10/07)
