Great road!
Took this road on a Thursday afternoon from 301 (very commercial with lots of lights) as far as 33 on my way down to Williamsburg, VA.
This was a relief after the very busy 301.
It's a 4 lane divided highway through farmlands and a couple small towns.
I saw signs that listed it as a Virginia scenic byway, which it certainly was and we had to wonder from the lack of traffic (very very little) just who they built this nice 4 lane road for.
The sweeping curves and the smooooth road leaves you smiling like this road is there just for you.

I rode 17 from Yorktown all the way to Fredericksburg, great road through the country and little towns.
Little to no traffic, great ride in early morning.
Great road! Will ride again!

We live in Gloucester.
We want everyone to know that when you travel on Highway 17 there are 2 very good biker bars.
One is located in Gloucester (Not Gloucester Point) called Damon's.
If you are traveling south on 17 then it will be just past the traffic light where there is a Wal-Mart and Applebee's, plus a few other small shops.
Just keep a watch on the left, if you get to the next traffic light you have past it.
If you are traveling North on 17 then of course you know it will be on your right and just past the Traffic light that has a Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Zoom's Gas station.
The other bar is called Cruiser's.
That is located in a small shopping center just outside of Gloucester.
If you are traveling on 17 South look for the shopping center that has the antique store and there is a Exxon Gas Station out by itself on the left hand side of 17.
If your traveling North then you know what to keep an eye out for.....Sorry Can't remember the name of the shopping center, I know it has West in the beginning of it.
Both these bars have outstanding food and on the weekends Damon's has outside live bands weather permitting, and Cruisers has live bands as well.
When you are up in Tappahannock area there is a good place called Lowery's.
They have good food but this is a family restaurant, not a biker bar.
We hope everyone that travels 17 is safe in their journey and enjoys this area as much as we do.

Primarily a divided two-lane flat highway strolling through countryside surroundings.
About 20 miles outside Gloucester Point there is a very large flea-market with 100+ vendors in quaint buildings or covered areas (very friendly folk).
Along the route there is gas a plenty at very low prices.
About the last 15-20 miles of the trip, Fredericksburg end, the road becomes rolling and very canopied (some blind hills so take care).
Speeds along the route range from 35-60 with only a few traffic lights and very light traffic on Sunday.
Law enforcement is stationed at hidden spots.
The total trip will take about 2h 15m.

Great 4 lane blacktop with very little traffic and less than 10 stop lights all the way there.
Very scenic and tranquill road with good restaurants along the way.
