Best part of Route 14, which is listed until Barre.
Souh of Barre, it becomes pretty sweeping.

VT 14 is a nice, scenic ride meandering through the countryside.
Since much of it passes thru farm country, watch for the usual hazards: slow moving equipment, muddy tracks or manure where tractors cut across the road, small villages where slowing down is a must.
It’s a very enjoyable alternative to the slab or SR 100 if you’re bound for the Newport area, though.
Watch for deer and driveways between Middlebury and Hardwick; that section was logged off a few years ago and the young forest comes right down to the road reducing visibility to the sides.
If traveling north to south, slow for the curve in East Montpelier as there is a steel grating bridge just after it that you want to take straight.
