Rider Comments:
- "This has to be the best road in the Pacific Northwest for motorcyclists.
The highway ricochets off the hills and sweeps up and down the mountains in an extreme series of switchbacks.
Down Rattlesnake grade and back up the Oregon side.
Start in Clarkston, WA in the most south east corner of Washington State. WA 129 goes south from a junction with US 12. It runs along the Snake River for about 8 miles before climbing up onto a plateau in an exhilarating series of switchbacks (Anatone Grade). The next 20 miles are fairly straight with open views of the Wallowa and Blue Mountains. WA 129 then descends into a canyon (Rattlesnake Grade) and to quote 'Washington for the Curious', "features more twists and turns than a runaway roller coaster". It crosses the Grande Ronde River, where you can stop at Boganns Store and rejuvinate, then climbs back another series of epic twisties up to the plateau on the Oregon side of the ride. Part way through the ascent you cross into Oregon and the road becomes OR 3, but the twisties continue. This spectacular stretch of road probably lasts for about 22 miles. You can continue on OR 3 through Enterprise and Joseph to Forest road 39 which, to steal another quote, "offers a hair-raising, nerve jangling shortcut to Hwy-86"." - Anonymous (3/1/08) - Submit your on this road.
