Rider Comments:

  • One of the most enjoyable sections of my trip! (7-25-10) Good asphalt and fun turns. Even the straight sections are a blast to ride because of the scenery. Lots of deer on the road though in the evening. Some of the road sections must be new since they did not show up on my GPS TOPO map. Maybe newer maps will show it. - Howard Miller (7/28/10)
  • Rode this route last weekend. Start in Vancouver, head north and turn off at Woodland. Follow the road past the 3 lakes, Merwin, Yale and Swift until you hit Wind River Road just east of Swift Lake. The next 28 miles is a beautiful scenic 2 lane road with light traffic. Tall evergreen trees line the road, there is a stretch that has some tight turns but most is straight with gentle curves. Great 1 day ride. Make sure to stop off in Stevenson on Highway 14 heading back to Vancouver to eat at either the Crab Shack or Walking Man Brewery/Pizza. - Anonymous (9/2/09)
  • Excellent riding road. 2 lane asphalt paved Forest Service Road through Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Twists, curves, sweeping and tight turns. Stop at McLellan View Point for scenic views of Mount St. Helens. No services until you reach Carson. Several Forest Service campgrounds along the way. Road goes through old growth forests. Very little traffic. - Dick Yates (11/29/07)
